The Verbal Abuse Prevention Award

The Verbal Abuse Prevention Award  is courtesy of Tami Martell, a mother from the Montague area, who advocates for increased awareness on verbal abuse and its’ consequences.  The Award will be presented annually during PEI Verbal Abuse Prevention Week in October to one ELSB school.

A call for nominations is made each May. Schools are invited to prepare written application using the criteria below to recognize initiatives undertaken during that school year. Schools are encouraged to include documentation (school newsletter articles and photos etc.) that supports their activities, especially those which occurred during PEI Verbal Abuse Awareness Week (October), National Bullying Awareness Week (November) and PEI Family Violence Prevention Week (February).

The Verbal Abuse Prevention Award will be presented to a school in recognition of efforts from staff and students to:

a) increase the awareness of the effects of verbal abuse;

b) participate in anti-bullying initiatives;

c) promote safe, peaceful and caring learning environment.

The selection committee will consist of a minimum of three people including two Senior Team members and the Director od Student Services.

The successful school will be presented a plaque courtesy of Tami Martell.  Recognition of the award will be circulated to the media during PEI Verbal Abuse Prevention Week in October.
